Design Notes

Modern metal for the dirt - the evolution:

The Kite gravel platform began as a steel, rim braked cyclocross frameset with loads of tyre clearance. The model has evolved over the 15 years since, now crafted from Titanium, employing additive manufacturing methods to provide the ultimate smooth riding, clean looking modern gravel bike.

Sublime ride whatever the size:

Unlike many production frames, I select each individual tube in each frame size to ensure optimal ride characteristics for that frame size - and the corresponding size and weight of rider expected to be riding it. Not only do tube diameters change through the size range, but wall thickness and profiles deliver sublime handling, responsiveness and comfort no matter what size the rider.

The ultimate chameleon:

Versatility is a virtue. In this age of increasing specialisation it’s easy to get sucked into the trap of thinking you need a gravel bike, a winter bike, a touring bike, a cross bike etc etc. The Kite can be all those things. Dress it up any way you please – plush 45mm tyres and ‘guards for winter roads, 30s for some summer speed, ‘cross tyres and hit a race or two, it can even take some full 29" or 27.5" mtb tyres for some singletrack action. Maybe add some bags for a bikepacking epic. In whatever configuration the ride is sublime.

  • "The Peregrine utilizes a classic silhouette with all the demands of a modern gravel bike: full 29″ tires, quality steel, and all the fittings you need whether touring or commuting…"

    - The Radavist

  • "I love the styling, I love this melding of classic looks, and aesthetics and construction techniques, but being able to use modern components..."

    - The Path Less Pedalled

  • "Something close to a magic carpet ride, and if you're put off by cookie cutter, carbon fibre bikes, then this might be a nice alternative.
