About

Singular Cycles is singular in nature - owned and operated by me, Sam Alison. I'm an Australian but for a long time transplanted to the UK. Our base is in the Chiltern Hills just north of London, England - and we now have a space in Portland, OR, USA which serves as our North American distribution point, workshop and showroom.

A life long bike nut - rider, racer and wrench - more than 20 years ago I decided I wanted something unique and different. A bike I couldn't find from mainstream - or even niche - companies. A simple but sweet riding steel mountain bike which could use flat or drop handlebars. That ultimately led to the very first Swift being launched in 2006 -  each of the more than dozen models I've created since then are a reflection of my passion for a wide variety of bike styles.

That development and experimentation has coalesced into my current range of metal bikes made for dirt. From 29+ steel singlespeeds to fast Ti all-road bikes with 3D printed parts - a common thread running though all Singulars. One of simplicity, practicality, function and style. I try to design bikes which are made to give the owner a lifetime of satisfying use - whatever that use might be. They use common standards which allow for easy sourcing of replacement parts and are easily maintained by the user. I eschew electronic shifting and internal cable routing. Singulars are bikes which find their beauty in their simplicity and utility.

I conceive, design, test and refine every model of Singular made, however I am not a framebuilder. All Singulars, whether production models or custom one-offs are made with contract builders and factories in the far east - Taiwan and China. The reasons for this manufacturing decision are explored and explained further in the FAQ.

Thanks for your interest and please take a look around the site. Visitors are also welcome at my showroom and workshop in the Chiltern Hills just north of London - you can book a time here the coffee machine is usually on, and we have trails from the door for test rides.

Keep riding!

Sam

KITE

The Kite was conceived in the times Before Gravel - as a cyclocross bike with more tyre clearance and a little mellower geometry - which is in essence what became gravel bikes. The very first version, let's call it the Mk1 Fe - launched in 2012 - was a light and lively steel canti braked bike with a straight blade steel fork - one of the smoothest riding bikes I've made. Its successor came in 2016 - still a steel frame, the Mk2 Fe had larger tube profiles, disc brakes and a painted-to-match carbon fork. It had a stiffer and more sporty feel than the original, which foreshadowed what was to come.

When Singular re-launched in 2019 - custom titanium versions of the Kite were the among the first things we did. These mimicked the geometry of the steel frames, but rendered them in that most vaunted frame material - Titanium.

The current Kites take this evolution further, with the use of additive manufacturing technology to create a beautiful, unique and functional modern gravel bike for a lifetime of riding.
