All complete bikes are assembled in house by experienced professional mechanics. We take care over your bike - every thread is prepped, every bolt is torqued correctly, cables are cut to the right length and brakes are bled. For bikes being shipped, they are carefully packed and require only minimal reassembly. Though, where possible, we encourage customers to visit one of our workshops to have a shakedown ride and get your set-up perfectly dialled in.
The above specification is subject to change with part substitutions as availability may dictate.
N.B. Bikes built from our Portland, USA workshop will come with Astral Wheels rather than Hope. They will also have brakes set up left lever front, right lever rear.
Design Notes
Modern metal for the dirt - the evolution:
The Kite gravel platform began as a steel, rim braked cyclocross frameset with loads of tyre clearance. The model has evolved over the 15 years since, now crafted from Titanium, employing additive manufacturing methods to provide the ultimate smooth riding, clean looking modern gravel bike.
Sublime ride whatever the size:
Unlike many production frames, I select each individual tube in each frame size to ensure optimal ride characteristics for that frame size - and the corresponding size and weight of rider expected to be riding it. Not only do tube diameters change through the size range, but wall thickness and profiles deliver sublime handling, responsiveness and comfort no matter what size the rider.
The ultimate chameleon:
Versatility is a virtue. In this age of increasing specialisation it’s easy to get sucked into the trap of thinking you need a gravel bike, a winter bike, a touring bike, a cross bike etc etc. The Kite can be all those things. Dress it up any way you please – plush 45mm tyres and ‘guards for winter roads, 30s for some summer speed, ‘cross tyres and hit a race or two, it can even take some full 29" or 27.5" mtb tyres for some singletrack action. Maybe add some bags for a bikepacking epic. In whatever configuration the ride is sublime.
