The Pterodactyl is a titanium 32" wheeled drop bar bike built around longer days, rougher terrain and riders who are looking to cover lots of ground, at speed.  Available only in L, XL, and XXL sizes, it's unapologetically aimed at riders around 5'10" and above, where the geometry and wheel size can do what they're supposed to do without compromises like excessive stack height, too slow handling, or toe overlap.

We are doing a very limited run of these very special framesets- as for the Albatross as a rolling chassis package of frame, fork, headset, wheels and tyres. We're taking pre-orders through to the end of May for delivery in September.  If you get an order in before May we can also make minor changes to the frame specification as required, just contact me for details.

BIG TYRES AND DROP BARS SINCE 2006

Big wheels and drop handlebars were the reason Singular launched nearly 20 years ago. With the arrival of the 32" wheel standard - I had to create a bike for these massive hoops with drops that epitomises the Singular ethos.

MOMENTUM AND TRACTION

Two key traits of any good mountain bike - the 32" wheeled Pterodactyl has them in abundance. The way this bike carries speed over rough ground, up hills and around corners has to be experienced to be believed.

MTB WITH A TOUCH OF GRAVEL

The Pterodactyl employs MTB standards for hubs and cranks for maximum wheel strength and drivetrain options. But it's intended for more gravel leaning riding at speed on not-too-tech terrain. With a steep head angle and (relatively) short wheelbase the handling stays sharp.

Design Notes

The Pterodactyl is a titanium 32" wheeled drop bar bike built around long days, rough terrain, for riders who are looking to cover lots of ground, at speed. Available only in L, XL, and XXL sizes, it's aimed at riders around 5'10" and above, where the geometry and wheel size can do what they're supposed to do without compromises like excessive stack height, too slow handling, or toe overlap. We've tried to just make it fit properly and handle nicely. If we were to consider it in comparison to one of our 29” wheeled bikes it’d be somewhere in the blurry gravel netherworld between a Gryphon and Kite.

It has some mountain bikey things like a superboost rear end with 157mm spacing for wheel strength and MTB cranks to keep the stays a reasonable length, with clearance for up to a 2.4" knobbly tyre. But then it has a quite steep 71deg head angle to keep the handling sporty while running the big wheels and a recommended 50cm+ flared dirt drop handlebar.

Frames come in brushed titanium with the signature simple Singular logo on a blasted downtube panel as standard. But for those who'd like the paint finish akin to the show bike, that's also available as a £500 upgrade.

  • "The Peregrine utilizes a classic silhouette with all the demands of a modern gravel bike: full 29″ tires, quality steel, and all the fittings you need whether touring or commuting…"

    - The Radavist

  • "I love the styling, I love this melding of classic looks, and aesthetics and construction techniques, but being able to use modern components..."

    - The Path Less Pedalled

  • "Something close to a magic carpet ride, and if you're put off by cookie cutter, carbon fibre bikes, then this might be a nice alternative.
